Happy New Year!
I was talking to a friend about resolutions and we struck an interesting insight. What are resolutions and why make them? Really, we were expressing our disdain at how change is sometimes pursued without evaluation or recognition of what was done before or the grounds that have been gained in trying. At least that’s what I gather after thinking aloud. Now, I won’t go into a spiel about resolutions and what they mean. We have a sense of what they mean I will presume. The insight that was discovered in our discussion was whether some see the new year as literally a new leaf with the year before for naught.
RESOLUTION is about being determined or resolute.
REFOCUS is about looking at something in a new or different way.
Can you see the difference? Is there a difference?
You see, when we hear and talk about resolution, it’s about starting again at something we have tried before such as the gym, healthy eating, vision boards, saving, family time, a new hobby, school, self care, career change etc. I am not saying resolutions don’t work for some. For many it’s a start that doesn’t always end in a finish but results in a restart once a new year comes again.
Why not refocus?
Refocus says, what’s worth repeating? What should I remove? What can I add? Instead of a total reset, there is conscious evaluation before action. I can appreciate this view on so many levels.
I think they can be merged intentionally. You see, resolution for me is also about attitude. If my attitude after evaluation through refocusing is resolute then perhaps I stand a better chance this year in achieving those goals and dreams.
Making goals and taking action shouldn’t be complicated. Evaluation however is necessary in my opinion to bring about intentional change without too many setbacks.
Thanks for stopping by. I hope to see you again here in the next two weeks (Yes… the next two weeks… I plan on getting into your inbox bi-weekly this year 🙂 ) Being resolute and refocusing in making changes after last year’s blog evaluation. 🙂 hahahah
Hope you are liking the new blog look 🙂
