Hi Everyone,
It’s been a minute! π
It’s Fall here in the Northern Hemisphere and the change in weather is a sure reminder of that if we were ever doubting.

I was definitely not playing around with the alliteration in this caption since the weather change screams functional but also fashionable.
Fall is synonymous with sweaters and scarves and of course the coat! It’s layering time people. I mean, where would Fall be without a statement coat that keeps you warm and stylish right? Maybe it’s just me. π

The fashion for Fall is personal and is all dependent on the individual. I say have fun with it. All the fun prints and colours don’t have to be reserved for Summer and Spring. More than ever during those transitional months to Winter, you want to bring that joy and happiness of getting ready into your wardrobe with functional, fun staples. π
The scarf has been a staple for my handmade brand from day one. Those were what I started with and quickly became my best sellers those first two years of venturing out. With my growing one-of-a-kind handmade line, I have started to make limited select coats in the Fall.

I have been smitten by the coat bug. What do I mean? Well, after daringly completing the orange and black houndstooth coat for the Etsy Made in Canada Market last year and another custom ordered one, I felt inspired to repeat the process again this year by adding a couple to the shop. This is the first one for this year. π It’s listed in my shop .

This pattern mimics my Dashiki Shift Dress pattern with some tweaks. I altered it to make it more of a coat – this meant the neckline would be different to accommodate the opened front. The pockets this time around are patch pockets. I had a bit more of this fabric so I was able to get a belt to tie if the wearer required that. I also had enough to have a slight overlap at the front closure since there are no buttons. Either way the wearer can choose their own preferred styling which makes this an ideal layering option in Fall and potentially Winter.

I kept it unlined as well, since most likely it is a layering piece. π
Now back to that Capsule Fall wardrobe sewing. I can’t wait to share those pieces with you all. Look out in November.
I hope your October is off to a good start and you are doing well as we continue to manage and cope with the current global pandemic. Continue to stay safe and positive.
I appreciate you stopping by!
The sewing and entrepreneurial journey continues!
Blessings
Uta
