Hey Everyone,
As we close out the first month of this new decade, it’s been a crazy creative whirlwind of planning and creating in my sewing studio.
There’s a phrase I heard in a music documentary that will stay with me forever – “You never know when you are making history”. Since hearing this phrase about a year ago, it has changed the way I interact with the garments I make and the possibilities I send each of them out with from my studio. This post captures one of those moments that I never dreamed would happen. A look that made it into the special memoir for someone. π

While there were many great moments from successful fittings and sales in January, I had the privilege of creating the above two-piece original Amshina outfit for a friend and Toronto Change Agent making her mark in the community. There are no introductions needed for the guest featured in the photo. No he is not a wax model but the 44th President of the United States Barack Obama. The event held in Toronto was ‘A Conversation With Barack Obama’ on January 23rd by the Economic Club of Canada and the Global Institute for Conscious Economics.
I was smiling from ear to ear when this photo came through on my phone. I was not only super happy for her and this pivotal moment in her career but that I was able to contribute by designing a piece that she loved and felt confident in as she attended this event. She looked beautiful!

This design of mine is called “The Duchess”. It’s a two-piece look that gives the illusion of a dress but offers the functionality of two separate pieces that can be mixed and matched for multiple looks. It’s in essence a packaged wardrobe deal. π

When I source fabric and come up with designs, I don’t always know what pieces are going where and to whom. I enjoy the mystery in that and always hope that wherever it goes and whatever it accomplishes that it makes the wearer feel fabulous.
In this case, I knew where it was going and was still floored when I received that photo.:) Mission accomplished!

I hope you enjoyed this short piece and also hope that you are inspired in your creativity or career to always put your best foot forward in everything you do because you don’t know when you are making history.
I know I sure am inspired for the year ahead and for God know’s where these pieces will go. π The destination is not as important as the process. My intention is to put my best into the final product so that wherever it ends up, the end user is always satisfied. π
Here’s to making more memories in February! Wishing you a great start to the next month!
Blessings
Uta
